The Catania metro is a standard-gauge, electrically powered metropolitan railway operated by the Circumetnea Railway, in service since 11 July 1999. It currently extends for about 8.8 km along the Nesima-Stesicoro line and the Galatea-Porto branch line. with eleven stations. The Nesima-Stesicoro section, 7 km long, is entirely underground and with a double track, while the Galatea-Porto branch, of 1.8 km, has a single track and surface.
